Read the 'race cake row' story in today's Sun here (In short: kid A - last name Wiener -gets called 'sausage boy' by kid B - last name Brown. Wiener calls Brown 'chocolate brownie' and the school gives this insult the racist incident treatment).
It would be laughable if it wasnt yet another example of policy in action. But truly laughable was Weyman Bennett's arguments on LBCs Nick Ferrari show this morning. Ferrari wanted to discuss the Sun's story. I came on the show to confirm that such cases are not unusual and teachers are just following guidelines. But once again, the Unite Against Fascism national secretary stepped in to defend government policy, this time by arguing the story was probably another tabloid invention. In any case, the real myth - rambled Bennett - is "the idea that the government is saying please find racist incidents". This is getting embarrassing Weyman. Here's a link to one of numerous versions of the advice offered to schools by LEAs and anti-bullying organisations (see page 48).
